My DJing journey

August 2025

I’ve always loved music. I bought my first cassette album — Every Breath You Take: The Singles by The Police — when I was 10, and I haven’t stopped collecting music since. When dance music exploded in the late 80s, I was hooked. Early hardcore, house, and techno all drew me in, and by 16 I had my first record player and speakers. That was when I began buying vinyl and raiding my parents’ record collection for hidden gems.

By 18, I was DJing at college parties where I learned to play as a house and techno DJ, and at 20 I bought my first set of Technics 1210s and a mixer. After university, I took things further with a sound system, lights, and a pair of CD decks — including the legendary Pioneer CDJ 1000 mk1. I began putting on parties, playing in bars, and even landing mobile gigs like weddings and birthdays and developed a more eclectic DJ style and learned to play to a variety of different crowds.

Over the years, I’ve never stopped playing. More recently, I’ve also started producing my own tracks. I began with DAWs, but now I’m moving toward a dawless setup using hardware synths, sequencers, and samplers. There’s something about the hands-on, spontaneous approach that keeps music alive for me.

My style is eclectic, shaped by everything I’ve listened to along the way: 60s psychedelia and rock, disco, electro, underground house, and techno. At the same time, I’m adaptable — whether it’s an intimate club night, a festival, or a wedding, I can bring the right vibe (even if that means dropping some classic party cheese when needed!).

For me, DJing is about creating moments — blending tracks, styles, and moods to connect with people. This blog is where I’ll share more about my journey, the gear I use, the mixes I make, and the culture that inspires me.

I now live in East Sussex and have a full mobile DJ set up, if you have a special party coming up please drop me a line here and I will provide a no obligation quote for your event.
